Sebastien's own story is the inspiration for Basqueria. He grew up on a farm in the Basque Country in Southwest France, where the outdoors is everything and the best cooking happens when you are Mother Nature's sous chef.
Their story
In their own words.
Basqueria is my way of sharing the culture I grew up around, inspired by the Basque Country and shaped by life in Southern California. I believe in simple, honest food made with care, using ingredients that are fresh, seasonal, and close to the land. It is about slowing down, gathering outside, and creating moments where food, nature, and people come together naturally.
“ Like a Friend Said posted a video about our sandwiches, and it went bananas. People from Florida, and even from Dubai came.”
What started as a passion for cooking has grown into something broader, reflecting how I live and create. Through Basqueria, I bring together food, design, and hospitality to offer experiences that feel thoughtful and effortless. Every detail matters to me, from what is on the table to how it is shared, and my goal is always to create something that feels warm, intentional, and real.
Business background
I’ve been building Basqueria since around 2022, after years of working in New York. Starting fresh in California meant rebuilding everything and introducing a culture many people here were not yet familiar with.
BIGEST STRUGGLE
As a first-generation immigrant founder, the biggest challenge has been starting from zero, from funding to awareness. It takes resilience to bring your culture into a new place and make people connect with it.
